Algebra 1 Readiness Bridgeprototype

For homeschool families · middle school → Algebra 1

Find your child's starting point. Build the skills they need for Algebra 1. Know what to work on next.

A readiness check that explains its results, short targeted lessons with a parent guide beside each one, and fresh rechecks to see what stuck. It is a bridge across defined prerequisites — not a full Algebra 1 course, a placement test, or a promise.

The sample report uses a fictional learner. Purchases run on a hosted Stripe page — in test mode until the owner authorises launch.

How a session looks

"Math in 20"

  • 5 min launch task
  • 10 min connected practice with hints on request
  • 5 min wrap-up + a short independent check

A flexible estimate, not a timer. Pause, split a lesson across days, or add your own teaching.

Who it serves

Getting ready for Algebra 1

A middle-school learner who will start Algebra 1 soon. The check finds which prerequisites are secure and which need work first.

Shoring up a gap

A learner who is "fine" overall but keeps stumbling on one thing — signed numbers, fractions, order of operations.

Moving faster

A learner who already knows some of this. A fresh independent check lets them show it and skip ahead, by rule, not by opinion.

What it checks: the prerequisite map

How the path works

  1. Readiness check. Untimed, one question at a time, "I'm not sure yet" allowed. No hints and no feedback during the check — that is what makes the evidence independent.
  2. Parent report. A written status for every skill with the evidence behind it: Not Yet Checked · More Evidence Needed · Needs Support · Developing · Demonstrated on This Check. Never a grade level or a percentage.
  3. Learning plan. The earliest prerequisite that actually showed difficulty comes first — not every earlier topic. You can adjust the plan with a reason; the record stays honest.
  4. Lessons + parent guide. One goal, a launch task, practice at three levels, hints that are tracked as help, a worked explanation, and a separate independent check with fresh problems.
  5. Rechecks and retention. New parallel items a few days later and again weeks later. A weak result recommends review; it never erases history.

Common questions

Is this an Algebra 1 course?

No. It is a bridge across defined prerequisite skills. It does not teach Algebra 1, and it does not place a student or guarantee success in any course.

Does it say whether my child is "ready"?

The report says which prerequisite skills were demonstrated on the check and which need work, with the evidence counts. An overall readiness sentence is only possible once every essential skill in the map is published and the teacher has approved the evidence rules — in this prototype it is switched off.

Is it adaptive?

The check starts broad and adds a few targeted follow-up questions when the evidence for a skill is thin or mixed. That is a transparent, configurable rule — not a claim of sophisticated adaptive testing.

Does it use AI to grade my child?

No. Answers are checked by fixed, published rules on the server. Questions that ask for reasoning are read by the teacher. AI may help draft new material for the teacher to review, separately from what learners see.

What about my child's data?

Learners are identified by a nickname only — no email, birth date, school or diagnosis. This prototype stores no real child data at all. Before real registration, privacy and consent obligations will be reviewed and the data-use, retention and deletion behaviour written down.

How long does it take?

The check is untimed and can be paused. Lessons are planned around "Math in 20" but nothing stops you taking longer, splitting a lesson, or adding your own instruction.
